how it all started...
The heart behind The Cottages on Orchard is Susan — a lifelong caretaker of both people and animals. With 30 years as a nurse and 40 years in animal rescue, her passion for nurturing shines through in every detail of the cottages.
As an eco-friendly host, she lets the land thrive naturally — no harsh chemicals, only mossy paths, sun-dappled gardens, and forested trails to explore. Originally from New York, Susan made her home in Wilmington in the early 2000s, and has since created a tranquil, storybook retreat in the historic Ardens where guests (and their pups) can feel truly at home.
